Early morning, sky was covered with clouds, hiding the “roof of Hokkaido” from us. Starting at the top ropeway station we climbed Mt. Asahi-Dake (2291 m A.S.L.), crossed some snowfields to Mt. Mamiya-Dake and continued to Mt. Naka-Dake. At the mountain hut Kuro-Dake-ishimuro (ishimuro = stone hut), we found a good rest for the first night.
